Low enrollment, countered by high retention

This year's Constantin College enrollment is lower than last year's according to numbers compiled by the registrar's office. Undergraduate retention, however, is the highest of the past six years, Jan Burk, registrar, said. As of September 2004, the enrollment in Constantin College is 1174.

Seventh UD president's inauguration set for Oct. 23

The inauguration of the University of Dallas' seventh president, Dr. Frank Lazarus, will be Saturday, Oct. 23. Students, faculty, and alumni are invited to the events, which will begin Saturday morning and last through the afternoon. Bishop Charles Grahmann will preside over the Inauguration Mass at 9 a.

Charity Week is officially over; and though the net collection is still being tabulated, the projected total from the week is $16,000. "I just think it's impressive that people are able to be so generous when they have so little," Kate Wolfe, junior co-chair of Charity Week, said.

Best Buddies to hold field day with opportunities for games

The Best Buddies Club is hosting a Special Olympics event Oct. 16. The field day will be inside the gym from 10 a.m. to noon, and will have games such as soccer, bowling, beanbag toss, relays, and dancing. This is a free event, and everyone is invited to cheer for the buddies.

Students invited to maintain land

Conservation in Action Workday for the month will take place Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dr. Marcy Brown-Marsden, associate biology professor and Cedar Ridge Preserve manager and president on behalf of Audubon Dallas, said. Volunteers are invited to help remove invasive shrubs and prepare the native prairies at Cedar Ridge Preserve for the semi-annual mowing.

Children's writer visits UD, speaks about education

A writing assignment by a sixth grade teacher has blossomed into a full career of writing experiences for the non-fiction writer who visited the University of Dallas last week. Elaine Scott, non-fiction children author, visited UD's education department last week in Gorman Lounge.

UD chapter of American Chemical Society honored

The University of Dallas Student Affiliates chapter (SA) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) received an honorable mention award in September in recognition of outstanding achievement, Dr. Frank Lazarus, UD president, announced Sept. 30. Honorable mention is an annual award recognizing the activities and efforts of UD's SA chapter during the 2003-04 academic year.

Physics students present research at Baylor University

Three UD seniors were invited to present findings from their summer research for the Texas Section of the American Physical Society Forum on Industrial and Applied Physics at Baylor University in Waco Saturday. Jamie Antonelli, Adam Papania, and Greg Pepin made the presentations based on 10 weeks of summer research funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Tradition. Besides the Core and family ties, no other idea unifies the UD community to the extent tradition does. UD folk love traditions- Charity Week, Groundhog, and the list goes on. But one UD member and ardent football fan has a tradition all his own, a tradition tied to Texas and Oklahoma history.
