On Nov. 10, Dinner and Discourse hosted a lecture by Dr. Gilbert Garza of the psychology department. Garza spoke on the problem of dating violence. Beginning his lecture, Garza said that he wanted to begin by relating an incident that had happened when he was in graduate school.

With the stereotyping of "going green" as a left-wing interest, many conservatives feel uncomfortable with environmental concerns. Perhaps this is also why recycling - a 30-year-old institution taken for granted on every other college campus - was only officially implemented on campus this past semester, thanks to the hard work and initiative of Alan Sterling from Purchasing and Luke Mutschler from Human Resources.
Perhaps this is also why the University of Dallas Earth Service Club, formerly known as the Environmental Alliance, has about nine members on a good day.

The Braniff Graduate Student Association Senate has started the fall 2009 round of its conference stipend program. With funding from the BGSA student fee budget and Dean of the Braniff Graduate School, we are offering six $400 stipends for the presentation of papers at academic conferences. We expect to announce stipend recipients by the end of the fall term.

Students who are "pledges" of Alpha Phi Omega, the service fraternity, have begun a project to raise money for the Irving Interfaith Clinic. The pledges need to complete this project to be initiated as full-fledged members of APO. Katherina Avila, a pledge, said that her group is working on two ways to assist the Irving Interfaith Clinic: volunteering and fundraising.

On Friday Nov. 13, Taylor Marshall spoke about how the Anglicans were joining the Catholic Church. With the room full and with lots of good refreshments, he began to speak. Marshall was never raised in any religion in particular.

Fairies represent the natural order of things - at least in the world of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Dr. Leo de Alvarez of the politics department spoke to this effect in a lecture covering "politics, poetry and revelation" in the Shakespearean comedy. The lecture was held Wednesday night in Madonna Hall Lounge.

The new University of Dallas Web site has been received with both praise and disappointment. Switched over from the old on Sept. 1, the new "udallas.edu" has improved capabilities, like streaming video, the potential for faculty blogs and links to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but the enhanced site hasn't impressed some departments on campus.
