UD's second annual rhetoric competition will take place Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. in Gorman C. The competition provides an opportunity for rhetoric to be put on display and gives students an opportunity to voice their opinions outside of class. The subject is Environmentalism and Liberal Arts.
The seven competitors are given reading assignments from sources such as A. E. Housman and Henry David Thoreau to prepare for their speeches. Each competitor will have 10-15 minutes to present their speech and to be judged by three faculty members.
First place prize is $300, second is $200, and third is $100.
The winner may also have an opportunity to publicly present his or her speech, on the Mall. Deadline to register has passed, but anyone is welcome to watch the contest.
