The Crusader's men's soccer team put together two of their finest performances of the season last weekend in Iowa. The UD men traveled an exhausting seventeen hours each way to play the games, but the results said differently as the men resoundingly won their games.
Dallas began its weekend by playing Clarke College on Saturday, just hours after arriving. The travel fatigue showed, as a gritty Clarke team shut down the Crusaders for much of the half then scored on a deflected shot to take the lead into halftime. The second half, however, belonged to UD.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, forward, Adam Lunger, found a loose ball and hit an off-balance shot that kissed the far post before settling in behind the goalkeeper. The next ten minutes would be all Lunger, who scored on a corner kick, then buried a penalty kick to complete the hat trick.
Senior Captain, Brandon Kenney finished the scoring when he intercepted a pass outside of the Clarke box and casually curled a shot inside far post. Kenney finished with a goal and an assist on the day.
While the Crusaders started slowly on Saturday, it was quite the opposite on Sunday. Three goals in the first ten minutes put the Crusaders comfortably ahead of Cornell as they cruised to a 5-1 victory. The lone goal scored by the Cornell men came on a penalty kick.
Along the way, the UD men received two goals from midfielder, Stuart Brown, two from midfielder Gabe Barkley, and two assists from midfielder/forward, Robby Burton.
The game results garnered praise from the Crusaders head coach, David Hoffmann.
"Our second half against Clarke and our first half against Cornell were two of the best halves of soccer that we've played all year. When we put it all together, it's beautiful to watch," Hoffmann said.
