For a long time… I tried to create things that others would find interesting… but then I thought that maybe I could look at my own life… and take the normal things and portray them in an interesting way to others. - Autumn Kinsey
Autumn Kinsey's thesis exhibition threads is an exploration in identity and family relationships. Kinsey creates a unique visual vocabulary about herself and others based on stamped symbols relating to memories. Four persons in total are described, and their stories, as told by the artist, are contained within a wooden stamp-box. Story-book like inserts give the viewer an opportunity to learn the significance and stories behind the symbols which Kinsey uses to depict herself, her parents, and her boyfriend. On two paper-quilted pieces, symbols representing the different persons interact to relate the dynamics of family relationships.
