Annual Fund Raisers Break Records

UD's Phonathon, which ended last week, raised over 95,000 dollars with the help of 126 volunteers. Not only did this year's Phonathon raise more money than last year's, according to Annual Fund Officer Jim Livernois, but volunteers raised more per volunteer than they did last year.
Ninety percent of the Phonathon were students. The other volunteers were staff and alumni of the University. While the number of students on any given night ranged from eight to twenty, over the two weeks of the fall Phonathon, more than 11,000 calls were placed, with over 650 pledges made over the phone.
"For a student to take out, over a two week period, three, four, or five nights out of their time to come in to spend two and a half hours calling alumni- that's some commitment, whether they're doing it for their club or whatever, it's still commitment," said Livernois, expressing his gratitude for students who spent repeated nights placing calls to alumni and other potential donors to the University.
"I was here a couple of the nights when they were here, and it was really fun because whenever they got a donation you'd hear these bells ringing in the office… They were having fun, and you'd hear them say 'alright!' They were really into it," said Nancy del Regno, director of Marketing and Communications for the University.
In particular, Livernois praised Eric Pepin, the Senior class coordinator, and Brittany Cameron, Student Activities intern, for their help. He said that due to their proximity with the student body, they were able to be in close touch with students to encourage their participation.
"The bottom line is, everyone on campus, faculty, staff, whether they're full-time, part-time, adjunct, they all contribute to the overall success of the university, and that success is the education of the students that are here," said Livernois. He added that the money raised in the Phonathon and other aspect of the Annual Fund covers the cost of running the University not covered by tuition.
