Dear Editor,
Every since Fall '06, here at UD, I have been utterly distgusted with the University Newspaper. It seems to me that your editors never made it past 8th grade grammer. But, Im sure they must of, because their here at our school. One reason I am so concerend about our paper is because it represents all of us here at UD--are whole campus. Most of us (not to toot my own horn) can produce far superior righting than what comes out of that that newsroom of yours.
In case you did'nt know, our newspaper reaches far more people than just those on are little campus. The seminaries read it, our parent's subscribe to it, and it is even posted on the internet for the public to read (which includes prospective students). With so much on the line, arn't you more concerened with the image we're putting out of ourselves. I think this paper could be much more better if your news team put some care into there work. Or, at the least, could you at least proof-read your work?
I think by putting out a flawless paper every week you could really boost the morale of the students as well as opinion which the public has of us. Internally, we would learn to expect more from ourselves. I certainly would'nt want to hand in any article from the newspaper to one of my English professors. All of us take the care to check our papers for simple errors of spellnig and grammer; so why shouldn't the news team, whose work is circulated all over campus (to both professors and fellow students), edit their work as well? Externally, buy building up a sharp image of ourselves, as opposed to a sloppy and careless one, we could gain respect for ourselves and attract more students, to.
In conclusion, my wish is to see a paper which will spur discussion about the issues in the articles it contains. Not discussion that merely points out the flaws of the paper and overlooks the issues it presents. Please, start to take some pride in your work for the paper--the same pride you and the rest of us put into the work we UD students put into every other thing we do here.
Sincerely,
Noam Chomsky
