UD Men's Soccer triumphed this weekend in their last home game of the season by beating out the Colorado College Tigers in a tight 3-2 victory. Despite rough play and stiff competition, the Crusaders played an excellent game, exhibiting brilliant defense and strong midfield play. Thus, UD continues their five-year winning steak at home, remaining confident as the team prepares for their next game on Tuesday, Oct. 28 against Howard Payne University in Brownswood, TX.
UD's first half started out with a bang as both teams came out to play. Straight from the get-go, senior midfielder Stuart Brown scored the first goal to give UD the early lead, assisted by junior midfielder Aaron Tucker. Next, the Crusaders scored their second goal from senior Adam Lunger, who was yet again assisted by Aaron Tucker, by virtue of a beautiful chip. Thus, when the first half came to close UD found themselves in a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Not to be outdone however, Colorado came back with a vicious retort. Indeed, Colorado was able to score twice within the second half, making UD somewhat uneasy with regard to this winning status. Yet the Colorado Tigers' efforts turned out to be futile as senior Adam Lunger scored again, making his second goal of the game. Therefore, Lunger's efforts put the Crusaders in a comfortable 3-2 lead and almost ensured a UD victory.
For the rest of the third half, UD's men put defensive gloves on. With help from senior goalkeeper Chris Sumcizk, none of Colorado's shots could find their way into the net. Thus, UD ends their last game of the season at home with a sweet, feel-good finish.
UD soccer would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to its seniors playing their final home game as undergraduates. Among those seniors who played were foward Bandon Washatka, midfielder/defender Bennet Rawicki, forward Gabe Barkley, defender Tyler Balzer, forward Diego Avelar-Rios and defender Dan Mortenson.
