Dinner, dessert and death are just some of the ingredients that made the Resident Hall Association's Murder Mystery Dinner event a fun success.
Over 50 people gathered in Upstairs Haggar to enjoy dinner and an interactive mystery show on Saturday, Nov. 22. Guests enjoyed Italian food, including bread sticks, pasta, steamed vegetables, Caesar salad and tiramisu, while the professional show took place.
Murder Mystery Players, Inc., a producer of entertaining murder mystery dinner theater, put on the mystery. Taking place right after the 1929 stock market crash, six characters- Al the accountant, Elizabeth the detective, Mitzy the "sex-cretary", Tony the American gangster, Victoria the millionaire's wife and Vincent the millionaire-meet at a speakeasy to celebrate Victoria's birthday. As the news of the market crash spreads, however, emotions heighten and-BANG!-someone murders Al. It is left up to the guests to figure out whodunit?
In their teams of six at a table, guests interrogated each of the suspects, who walked throughout the room, in hopes of determining the killer and their motive. Once the questioning period was over, each team submitted their guess to the director and awaited the results.
"We talked it over at the table, taking turns to say what we thought" said Katie Piescik '12, one of the members of the winning team. "It was a real team effort and it was a lot of fun."
Three teams solved the case correctly, but only one could win. Executive President of RHA Ben Russo '11, dubbed "Boom-Boom" by the actors for the night, selected the winning team at random. Team Rolo Tony Brown Town won, and each member received chocolate and an Agatha Christie murder mystery book as their prize.
"I really liked the interactive aspect of the event," said Executive Vice President of RHA Gabbi Chee '11, who also headed the event. "Overall, I think it was a great event. People had fun and that's what matters most to me."
RHA has set high standards for future events since the Murder Mystery Dinner was such a hit. On Dec. 6, RHA will be putting on Winter Cotillion; make sure you come-you will not be disappointed!
