Commencement speaker announced

The Most Reverend Kevin J. Farrell will be the commencement speaker for the 2009 commencement ceremony for the undergraduate Constantin College of Liberal Arts, undergraduate College of Business and Braniff Graduate School of Liberal Arts. The commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 17 at 9 a.m. on the Mall. At the ceremony, students will receive bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
Farrell is the bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, a member of the University of Dallas Board of Trustees, and the ex officio Chancellor of the University. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Farrell was ordained to the priesthood in 1978. He was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the position of the seventh Bishop of Dallas in March 2007 and was later installed in that position in May 2007.
"Bishop Farrell honors the University and its students in delivering the 2009 commencement address," said Dr. Frank Lazarus, president of the University of Dallas, in a statement released to the press on Monday, April 20. Lazarus continued: "His academic experience, his scholarly disposition, and his familiarity with the synthesis of faith and reason distinguish him as a person who understands the academy well and whose spiritual leadership establishes a model for our students to emulate."
The commencement ceremony will be preceded by a Bacclaureate Mass on Saturday, May 16 at 6 p.m. in the Maher Athletic Center. Following the Bacclaureate Mass will be the President's Gala, held in the Haggar University Center for graduating students and their families.
The title of the address has yet to be released.
