In a corner of Haggar, what started as a modest pile of clothes and supplies to be sent to Haiti became a humongous collection, including school supplies, shoes and toys needing to be sorted.

On Saturday and Sunday, there was an amazing relief effort organized by Texans for Haiti.

Texans for Haiti is a group organized by Meroudjie Denis, an alumna from the University of Dallas who moved to the United States from Haiti at age 11.

Denis decided to take matters into her own hands and send material aid to Haiti.

Through connections at UD, Denis was able to use Haggar University Center as a facility to sort, fold and pack donations to be sent to Haiti.

Volunteers from outside as well as inside the Bubble came to help.

Jane Wynn, a friend helping Denis, said Denis had "a close heart to the situation."

One volunteer, Collin Lueck, said, "I'm just blown away by how much stuff is here."

In the course of the relief effort, clothing more suited for winter weather was given to other charities in the area that were able to benefit.

Certainly, it was a chilling reminder of the need still present in our own backyard.

Thank you to Denis, donors and all the volunteers inside and out of the Bubble who contributed this weekend!
